Pellicano Zoya Qara

100% cotton

275 gsm

cm

Size 6

Release date: 28th of November 2014

Zoya Qara is one of the most highly sought after Pellicano Baby wraps, and if you have ever wrapped with it, it is very easy to understand why that is. Not only is this a stunning rainbow and print, but it has some of the most amazing wrapping qualities out of all Pellicano's thin 100% cotton wraps.

I have tried many cotton wraps, Girasol, Didymos, Little Frog, Ellivelle, Oscha, and I have to say that for this gsm, I was quite surprised just how comfortable and cushy this wrap is on my shoulders. It definitely hasn't caused me any discomfort and has always felt very supportive. I have used this wrap with my 5yo son and my 16 month old baby, and it has been just as comfortable for my 5yo as it is with my 16 month old.

The stunning rainbow, hidden behind the Zoya spots is outstanding. There is a lot of discussion as to what animal print it is, Cheetah, Leopard or Jaguar, either way, it is stunning and really suits this rainbow. I have found that the Zoya range is far more comfortable than the Zamira range, why? I can't say, but it is definitely noticeable. The Zoya wraps I have tried to date do feel much softer and thicker than the zamira wraps, and we speculate that it has a lot to do with the design.

We wear this wrap the most out of all of our wraps, as my son really adores it, but we have also holidayed it quite a lot to share with ladies from our Babywearing Community group. I have worn this in a ruck with a Tibetan finish, DH, FWCC, Frankencarry, Christina's Ruckless Back Carry, Reinforced Ruck, Poppins Hip Carry and a few others as well. For some of the carries a 6 was too long, so I just tied a bow. I like bows.

I found that Qara very easily slides into place and stays there, the print gives it just the right amount of grip. My son is quite the bouncer when he is on my back, he will sit and bounce as we go on our walks, or while I am doing household duties, and Qara has just the right amount of bounce and stretch to allow this, without becoming loose and moving so he pops his seat, like he does with many other wraps.

I did find this as comfortable as my Lemon Looms Iris grade, but it was no where near as soft and bouncy. I would say it compares most to my Didymos Winter Lilies which was a 50/50 cotton and hemp blend wrap, it is hard to do a sloppy wrap job with this, but no matter what, it is always comfortable.

I definitely recommend this as a squish wrap, because it is super soft and supportive, and very mouldable, but I recommend it as a toddler wrap for the exact same reasons. I will admit I didn't like the look of this wrap until it was in my hands and I wrapped with it the first time. The moment it was on, I had fallen deeply in love and so grateful to have it in my stash.

Pellicano Baby Popart Candy

100% cotton

250 gsm

Size 5

70cm wide

Release date: 28th of August 2014 8:00 pm CET

This wrap has been a personal favourite of mine, and was the wrap that first started my love for Pellicano Baby wraps. The colours are very bold and really stand out, and the design is fun and cute. You will stand out everywhere you go in this wrap.

This wrap is 100% cotton and machine woven. It is thin, airy and very comfortable. My first experience with this wrap left me a little disappointed, as I had not got the rails tight enough and it very quickly began causing discomfort on my shoulders. I felt that there was not a great deal of grip with this wrap, so making sure the rails were tight every time was a necessity.

I wore my 8 month old in this and was able to happily carry him on my front for 4-6 hours, unless the rails were loose, then it would become uncomfortable and I would have to tighten it up again. This wrap I have found very supportive with both my baby and his older brother of 4 years at the time. Though I didn't carry him for long as I found the shoulder passes not as comfortable as some thicker wraps.

I found that this wrap was fantastic in a double hammock for my baby come 9 months of age, but wasn't overly comfortable in a ruck. It is definitely a wrap you would need to do multiple passes in for the extra comfort and support.

After about 11 months I found this wrap just didn't feel as comfortable on my shoulders as it had been, so I decided to have it converted into a Mei Tai, which I love and adore and use on those days where my son and I are a little impatient.

As a summer wrap, you really can't go wrong with Candy. It is a perfect wrap for the hot summer months in Australia. Though come those cold windy days, you will need extra passes and warm clothing, as the wind goes straight through and you really feel the cold.

The best carries for this wrap, in my opinion, are double hammock, frankencarry, forward wrap cross carry and poppins hip carry. Poppins shows off the beauty of this wrap very well!

Popart candy is a fantastic wrap, amazing for a newborn to 9 months, and good for older babies and children in a multiple pass carry. I would love for this to be released again in a linen blend. We can only hope right?

One thing to keep in mind is that I was only just getting the hang of using woven wraps when I purchased Popart Candy, so I was still quite inexperienced. Now that I have improved on my wrapping skills, I do find these thinner wraps more comfortable. So yes, I would use this, NOW, as a toddler wrap, but if I was only just starting out wrapping with an older baby/toddler, this would not be the wrap I would want to start with. Yes, it is a good wrap for a beginner, but a beginner with a younger baby.

Pellicano Baby Frissa

100% Cotton

390 gsm

73 cm wide

Size 7

Release date: 28th of January 2015

I was lucky enough to be asked to holiday this wrap from a friend, to help her break it in. It's quite a beastly wrap at 390 gsm, and she only had a 6 month old baby at the time, and a few other wraps to break in as well, and I wanted to do the try before you buy. Always good when and if you can.

Frissa is a stunning range of blues, creams, yellows, pink and green. In some photos, it honestly looks a little white in areas, but when you see it up close, it's very different. It is also one of those wraps that look even more stunning once it is on, than when it is folded up in a stash shot.

During my time with Frissa I went for many walks, both short and long, and not once did I find it uncomfortable. I wore this wrap in a Double Hammock, Ruck, and Forward Wrap Cross Carry. I think if it had of been easier to do a few more carries, but it is a very heavy wrap in a 7 and so I felt a bit restricted due to my base size being a 5 and using such a heavy wrap.

I found Frissa to be very cushy on the shoulders, even in a ruck tied Tibetan with my 15 kg 5 yo, it didn't cause any discomfort. The only other wrap I have found to be this comfortable so far has been my Solnce Whenua Waro, which is cotton, linen and merino, and Didymos Winter Lillies, which is a hemp blend. This wrap, while thick, is also quite airy. Maybe not the best for a very hot day, but I did find it was quite enjoyable on a reasonably warm day, we just wore cooler clothing.

Being such a wide wrap, it makes it very easy to get a nice deep seat, while maintaining a high back pass for the older child. Frissa felt quite smooth to the touch, but stiff like canvas on initial touch before being washed and ironed, but made the wrap quite easy to glide into place.

I gave this wrap a really good workout down at the local park, I went on the swings, down the slides, and played on a lot of equipment there, as well as a good hour walk through the bush and doing some housework at home, all up I wore him in this wrap for 3 hours and he was weightless the entire time. Now while my shoulders started to hurt slightly, that is more because of having sore shoulders prior to wearing that day, and like I have said before, very fussy shoulders.

Frissa is an incredible wrap, it may not be the prettiest rainbow in their range, but it is definitely my personal favourite. I believe once this has been broken in fully, it will be amazing for both small baby and toddler. It really does have a lot of potential. Brand new it feels horrible, like canvas, but it doesn't take long for it to start feeling better and to become mouldable. I have my own Frissa wrap coming and I can tell you right now, it will be permastash. It is definitely an all time favourite.

Pellicano Baby - Daarc Saphire

100 % Cotton

340 g/m2
23 ½ inches or 60 cm
Size 6
Release date: 6th of January 2015
Only 12 wraps made

I had this wrap on holiday from a friend, simply because people had asked me what I thought of this wrap, and I wasn’t able to tell them due to not having this wrap in my possession. So a very big thank you to Katrina, for allowing me to holiday Daarc before you sold it on.

Daarc is the narrowest of all the Pellicano Baby woven wraps, measuring at 60cm wide. Sadly this wrap just wasn’t right for my son and I, as we just found it to be too narrow as he is a seat popper. I was not able to put this in a ruck as he would pop his seat within minutes, but in a DH (double hammock) and a FWCC (forward wrap cross carry), I found it to be a lot more comfortable and he wasn’t able to pop his seat. For a toddler, I feel it is more suited to multiple pass carries.

Daarc Saphire is a stunning blue and white wrap, with extraordinary dragon designs over the wrap, and a very elegant edge pattern top and bottom. The way the blue and white meet and disperse through the wrap makes it look very mythical and dreamlike.  The reverse side had a very deep blue, which I much preferred personally. However, I found with this stunning textured weave, was that it is more prone to snags than the rest of the Pellicano Baby wraps that I have tried so far.

I wore this wrap for two hours before I felt the need to take it down. I found while it was supportive and comfortable, it became a little diggy in the shoulders for my liking. I have very fussy shoulders when it comes to wraps and this wrap, not being broken in, and easily mouldable, made it a little difficult with my older baby.  What I did like with this wrap is that while it was a cotton wrap, it was very airy, due to the weave, so while we wore this on a fairly warm Australian day, I didn’t find it overly hot and neither did baby.

Overall it is a very stunning and elegant wrap, very well suited to a newborn baby, and supportive for older babies and toddlers, but if you have a seat popper, you will find this a bit of a challenge. I think if this had of been 2 inches wider, I would have enjoyed this wrap a lot more, but with a seat popping 16 month old, narrow wraps just aren’t going to cut it, so I am not sad to see this one leave. However, I do feel that if you truly are looking for a comfortable and unique newborn wrap, I would most certainly recommend this.
